Little-known NCT trick to get a 'duplicate' if Irish motorists lose valuable document

Registered owners can apply for replacement NCT certificates and NCT reports for a fee €15.50

Losing an important document can be a stressful headache for any motorist, but there is a little-known trick, available through the National Car Testing Service (NCTS), that could make getting a duplicate NCT certificate far easier than you’d expect.

This simple trick can save Irish motorists time, hassle and, potentially, a €60 fine for not having the documentation, if stopped by gardai.

Here’s what you need to know to replace your NCT Certificate of NCT report quickly and efficiently.

Registered car owners can replace either document for a fee of €15.50, though this may be subject to change.

In order to apply for the replacement documents, the registered owner must first obtain a RF134 form from a garda station.

Once stamped and signed by a member of the gardai, the completed form must then be sent the following address.

The Test Certificate Administrator, NCTS, Lakedrive 3026, Citywest Business Campus, Naas Road, Dublin 24.

Along with the completed form, the applicant should also send in either the windscreen disc or the NCT certificate which is in their possession.

A bank draft or postal order, for €15.50, and payable to Applus Inspection Services Ltd, should also be included.

To obtain a replacement NCT report, the registered owner should include the registration number of their vehicle as well as the make and model and the owner details. Again, a bank draft or postal order covering the fee can be sent to the Test Certificate Administrator at the same address (see above).
