Storm Dave could lead to localised flooding and freezing temperatures in Donegal

Storm Dave will track near the Donegal coast today, bringing very windy and wet weather.

There is a Yellow Weather Warning for Rain for Donegal (risk of flooding) and Mayo from 8am Saturday till 4pm. Possible impacts include localised flooding, poor visibility and difficult travel conditions.

Southerly winds, veering southwesterly, will strengthen to very strong and gusty throughout the day. Strong onshore winds, coinciding with high tide, will increase the risk of wave overtopping and coastal flooding.

Outbreaks of rain and drizzle will move northwards throughout the morning. Over high ground, there is a possibility that precipitation may fall as sleet or snow early on. More persistent and heavy rain will spread eastwards across the country through the afternoon, with spot flooding possible. A clearance to scattered showers will develop later in the evening. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees.

Remaining windy at first with clear spells and scattered showers then tonight, with the chance of hail or sleet on higher ground. Chilly overnight with lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees in moderate to fresh southwest winds, gradually veering westerly and easing overnight, but staying strong along Atlantic coasts.

Bright and breezy with scattered showers and sunny spells for Sunday. Some showers may fall as sleet or hail on higher ground early on. The showers will become more isolated through the afternoon. Feeling crisp with highest temperatures of just 7 to 10 degrees in moderate to fresh westerly winds.
