New Inishowen comedy festival promises to be 'Wile Craic'

The inaugural Wile Craic Comedy Festival will take place in Muff at the end of May.

Inishowen companies MRK Live and The Muff Liquor Company have partnered for a range of comedy events that will take place in Inishowen.

Taking place in the village of Muff, the recently opened Muff Liquor Company will host a series of intimate club-style comedy shows including some of the country’s hottest comedians. 

Taking to the stage for an afternoon of laughs on Saturday, May 24 includes Joe Rooney (Father Ted), alongside Sean Hegarty, Lisa Casey, Elizabeth Redmond and Brian Gallagher hosting as MC.

Speaking on the partnership, Rory Kelly, a founder of MRK Live, said: “As a company that was born and bred in Buncrana, it is a real pleasure for us to be able to bring the first edition of Wile Craic to Inishowen this May, and particularly, to the stunning Buncrana Cinema. 

“In order to plan festivals like this, you always need people and brands that are going to join you on the journey, so having The Muff Liquor Company come on board is amazing. 

“As a brand, The Muff Liquor Company exudes all the charisma and fun that we want Wile Craic to have, so for Laura and the team to see this as an exciting opportunity for their globally-growing brand is so exciting for us. 

“Inishowen has a captive audience that is looking to support local activity, and that is something that we witnessed in October with our sold-out shows in Buncrana Cinema, supported by Donegal County Council. This has given us the appetite and encouragement to build this festival, one which we know the town and Inishowen will get behind.  

“There has been an incredible upsurge in comedy over the last few years, and we have been able to curate a line-up that features some of the best comics in the country, including Shane Todd, Paddy McDonnell and Owen Colgan.”
