Donegal’s newest practising solicitor has been formally introduced to the Bar.

Tanya Collins, from Buncrana, was welcomed earlier this month at a sitting of Carndonagh District Court at Buncrana Courthouse.

It was a very proud moment for Tanya, her family, her partner Matthew Duddy, and her friends, as she is the first solicitor in her family. The 27-year-old is a native of Buncrana; her parents are Michael and Breege Collins, from Buncrana.

The new solicitor obtained her primary and secondary education in Bucrana. Tanya is a former pupil of Scoil Iosagain and Crana College. After finishing her Leaving Certificate, she went on to complete a Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) at the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG). She then went on to pass her FE1 exams and completed the Professional Practice Course (PPC) with the Law Society of Ireland.

Tanya began working as a legal secretary for Mr Paul Kearney of Kearney Law Group in Northern Ireland. She completed her traineeship with Philip White, of Michael D White & Co Solicitors, Carndonagh, and currently works there. She trained in personal injuries, conveyancing, wills/probate and family law, and was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors on April 1.

Ms Collins was introduced to Judge Éiteáin Cunningham at Carndonagh District Court by veteran legal practitioner Ciaran MacLochlainn, of CS Kelly Solicitors.

The local Garda Sergeant also welcomed her to the profession and wished her the best in her career. Judge Cunningham congratulated her on her qualifications and confirmed that it is always a great pleasure to welcome a newly-qualified solicitor to the court.

Ms Collins thanked Mr MacLochlainn, An Gardai Síochána and Judge Cunningham for their kind words. She also thanked Philip White for his guidance and support throughout her traineeship.
