Joe Gorman’s contract at Finn Harps has been cancelled following a conviction for being drunk in charge of a vehicle.

The 30-year-old Dubliner was announced by Harps last month.

However, days later, Gorman was convicted of drink-driving at Swords District Court, where he was put off the road for two years and fined €1,000.

He was found to be drunk in charge of a vehicle at St Donagh’s Road, Donaghmede and a subsequent test showed 107mgs of alcohol per 100mls of blood.

Legal representatives for Gorman said he was not driving the car at the time, but a Judge found him guilty.

“The club can confirm the cancellation of Joe Gorman's contract by mutual agreement,” Harps said in a short statement. “We wish Joe all the best moving forward.”

Gorman, who has played for a slew of clubs in the UK and Ireland, last played for Bluebell United in the Leinster Senior League.

Senior officials at Harps were perturbed at the conviction given the club’s long-standing associating with the Donegal Road Safety Working Group, alongside whom they run an annual art competition for primary school children to promote road safety.
