A Garda forensics team is today expected to begin examining the scene of a property near Burnfoot where the body of a man was found on Wednesday afternoon.

A post mortem examination will also be carried out on the body of the as yet unidentified man.

The results of that examination will determine the course of the Garda probe, which is being led by officers at Buncrana Garda Station.

The body was found at a vacant property at Dundrain, Burnfoot at around 2.30pm on Wednesday. The body was located in an outbuilding close to a house, which is unoccupied.

The scene, a rural location close to the Donegal-Derry border, remains sealed off and under the watch of uniformed Gardai.

An Garda Siochana say they are investigating “all of the circumstances surrounding the death” of the adult male.

The office of the State Pathologist and the local coroner, Dr Denis McCauley, have been notified.

The man’s body has been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Letterkenny, where a post-mortem examination will take place.
