John Collins ‘served his community for many dedicated years and will be sorely missed by all who served with him’
Tributes have been paid on the death of retired Moville firefighter John Collins.
From Malin Road in the town, he passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday.
Moville fire service paid tribute saying his former colleagues were “devastated to hear of his passing”.
“John was a beloved member of our service and he was universally loved,” the fire service said in a social media post.
“He served his community for many dedicated years and will be sorely missed by all who served with him. His positive attitude, youthful nature and the occasional song kept spirits high on many a cold, dark night.
“Your service has now ended John but if you have walked amid the burning flames, you shall not be harmed.”
Formerly of Garryowen, Limerick, Mr Collins is survived by his wife Mary, children Jessica and Séan and grandchildren of Liam, Molly, and Nora.
His funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday in St Pius X Church, Moville at 11am followed by burial in Ballybrack graveyard.
