Tributes have been paid to Buncrana woman Deirdre McDaid who has died.

From Meenagorey, Buncrana, she passed away at the Donegal Hospice.

Buncrana-based autism support charity iCARE paid tribute to “our great friend and colleague Deirdre Mc Daid”.“We are heartbroken here in iCARE and our thoughts and prayers are with Brendan, Amy and Jason, her brothers Robert, Neil, Francis and Kevin, her sister Siobhan and the wider family circle, at this very sad time,” the charity said in a social media post.

“Deirdre was so kind and caring to everyone at iCARE where she worked and volunteered for many years. Her gentle manner and her ability to connect with our children and young people will never be forgotten.“Deirdre always had their best interests at heart and forged many deep bonds here. She was passionate about iCARE and the work we do and will be sorely missed by us all.

Donegal TD Pádraig Mac Lochlainn joined in the tributes describing her as “a lovely woman”.

My deepest sympathy to all of her family in Meenagory and Conglash,” he said.

Her funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, October 2 at 11am in St Mary’s Church, Cockhill.
