Shock and sadness has been expressed in Buncrana at the death of Mary McGonagle
Tributes have been paid to Buncrana businesswoman Mary McGonagle who has died.
From Rockytown, she ran the House No 35 gift shop on the town’s Main Street along with her husband John. She died suddenly on Thursday evening at Letterkenny University Hospital.
Buncrana Chamber of Commerce said its members were “truly shocked and saddened” to hear of her death.
“Sincere condolences to John, Caoife and James and the extended McGonagle and Doherty Families,” the group said in a social media post.
Cockhill Celtic Football Club said everyone involved in the club was “shocked and saddened”.
“Mary's family have long held links with Cockhill Celtic with her son James, brother Kevin and her nephews representing the club with distinction,” the club said.
“Our prayers and condolences are offered to the McGonagle and Doherty families and their friends at this sad time.”
She also has links to Buncrana Hearts Football Club where her husband John was a former coach at the Fun Soccer Academy and her son James and brother Kevin were former players.
“We offer our sincerest condolences to John, James, daughter Caoife, Sister's Annette, Elaine, Kevin and the McGonagle/Doherty family circle,” the club said.
She is survived by John, their children Caoife and James, her sisters Annette Mc Daid, and Elaine Doherty, her brother Kevin Doherty, her nieces and nephews, extended family, friends and neighbours.
Her remains are reposing at her home. Removal is from there on Monday, September 9 at 10.15am to St Mary’s Church, Cockhill for Requiem Mass at 11am.
