Tributes have been paid to Hubert Reynolds, one of the founding members of the Inishowen Maritime Museum, who died at the weekend.

Mr Reynolds, who died peacefully at his home in Greencastle on Sunday, was a merchant seaman and a fisherman. He was part of the first committee that established the museum which opened in 1994. He was also closely associated with the Greencastle regatta festival.

Paying tribute to him on social media, The Inishowen Maritime Museum said Mr Reynolds “was automatically connected to the sea”.

He was an active member of the museum’s committees and boards of management until he was forced to retire due to failing health.

“Even after retiring he helped out in a voluntary capacity by overseeing the security and alarms,” the museum shared.

As a mark of respect, the museum will remain closed until after his funeral on Wednesday, which takes place at St Mary's Church, Ballybrack, at 11am.

Mr Reynolds is survived by his wife Annie, children Elaine, Mark and Patricia  and his grandchildren, Beth, Harvey, Ethan, Makayla, Molly, Alex, Ryan and Corey.
