Buncrana Roads Policing Unit were accompanied by the Dog Unit, the RSA & Customs Officers at their checkpoint in Letterkenny
Gardaí from Buncrana Roads Policing Unit seized vehicles in Letterkenny this evening.
They were accompanied by the Dog Unit, the RSA & Customs Officers at their checkpoint in Letterkenny. One of the vehicles was deemed to be dangerous and defective and the other had no tax, NCT or insurance.
Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit also seized a car for speeding and the driver will be issued with a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice.
"Please ensure that your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition and that your documents are in order," An Garda Siochana warned.
The seizures came on the day Chief Superintendent Goretti Sheridan, Superintendent David Kelly, Inspector Seamus McGonagle and Garda colleagues joined Superintendent William Calderwood and his colleagues from within Police Derry City and Strabane at the Lifford/Strabane border to launch the cross-border roads Policing operation that will take place over the course of the Donegal International Rally weekend.
"We continue to work together to prevent serious injury and fatal road traffic collisions and we are committed to keeping people safe on the roads," An Garda Siochana said. "Checkpoints and patrols will take place on both sides of the border over the course of the weekend. Please always drive with care, slow down and wear a seatbelt regardless of where you travel. Never drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Do not use/hold a mobile phone while driving. Safe driving saves lives!"
