Residents of Greencastle have made an impassioned plea to save a baby goat that appears to be trapped on top of the ruins of 14th-century Northburg Castle in Greencastle.
Claire Callery shared this picture taken by Teresa Hannon to a local Facebook group, saying: "Is there a group of strong men with a ladder and rope that could help this kid goat please?
"The poor thing must need water at this stage.
"Can the Coastguard Rescue Service help please?"
Attempts have been made to save the young goat, with fears mounting for his wellbeing.
Goats are well known for their climbing ability, and this is by now means the first time that a goat has been spotted atop the ruins, as previously reported on Donegal Live
However, this goat seems much younger and unable to get down without assistance. Its bleating is reported as being quite distressing for those in the vicinity who feel helpless given the challenges of reaching the stranded creature.
One local resident has made an attempt to reach the goat, and has left a number of ladders and boards on site to try and assist the goat to descend by itself. He is warning others that the ladders are not secure for humans to use.
