A learner driver in Donegal was arrested for drug-driving this week.
Gardai in Buncrana detected the learner driver, who tested positive for the presence of cannabis.
The vehicle was detained under the Clancy Amendment, wich amended Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act 1994 to provide a power of seizure of a vehicle driven by a learner permit holder who is unaccompanied by a full licence holder.
The driver in question was unaccompanied at the time.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Be a responsible driver. Never get behind the wheel of any vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”
Gardai also issued a reminder for learner drivers: “A learner permit holder must be accompanied at all times by someone who has held a full, valid driving licence in the same category for a minimum of two years.”
