Funds are being raised for autism units at two Inishowen schools through a fundraiser based on the I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here TV show.

The funds for local specialised autism classes are being raised through the I’m In Joyce’s, Get Me Out Of Here event in Joyce’s bar in Carndonagh on Sunday, May 5 from 3pm.

Twelve contestants will go head to head taking on challenges just like in the TV show. They will take part in eating and drinking challenges as well as some fun game challenges.

This is the third year running the event is taking place in the bar and In the last two just under €10,000 has been raised for local autism units throughout the Inishowen. This year the chosen units are Scoil Treasa Naofa Malin and Scoil Isoagain Buncrana. Donations can be made at the Support for local specialised autism classes page on GoFundMe.com.

Organiser Kellie Tweed said: “It’s always a great day and great entertainment for the crowd as they cheer on their friends taking part.

At present both schools have classes open and do amazing work with the students to get them through primary school," she said.

“These funds will be used to support the schools with equipment for the classroom, field-trips and outings for the children, sensory rooms or to even open another room if needed. I have seen first-hand in the past few years the work that is put into these classes and how important they are for families that have children with additional needs. If you have a few euro spare feel free to donate, nobody knows down the line when their families might need these classrooms."
