£250,000 fraud case involving Donegal woman adjourned at Derry Magistrate's Court

The adjournment was granted at Derry Magistrate's Court

There has been a further adjournment in the case involving a woman who was due to face a preliminary enquiry at Derry Magistrate's Court charged with cheating the public purse, namely HMRC (HM Revenue & Customs), of more than £250,000 had her case adjourned.

Wendy McBean (60) of Railway Park in St Johnston faces a total of 25 charges. She is charged with cheating HMRC out of £250,000 by claiming Foyle Youth and Community Association had received donations of more than £1,000,000.

She was also charged with nine counts of fraud by false representation, nine charges of transferring criminal property and six charges of forgery.

All of the offences were said to have occurred on dates between October 27 2017 and December 3 2018. At Wednesday’s hearing a defence solicitor, Paddy McDaid, said that some time was required for counsel to read the papers in the case and asked for a three-week adjournment for a preliminary enquiry This was granted and the preliminary enquiry is scheduled to go ahead on April 24. McBean did not appear.
