This year’s annual St Patrick’s Day charity walk from Carndonagh to Malin town is being held in memory of 19-year-old Carndonagh man Shane Toye.

The walk, which will take place on Shane’s 20th anniversary, is raising funds for The Donegal branch of the Irish Kidney Association and The Friends of Inishowen Hospice. Shane’s mother Sally said the family are honoured that the walk is being held in his memory and they are delighted that the two charities can benefit.

As Shane’s organs were donated, the Irish Kidney Association is a charity that is very important to the family, she said.

“Because we donated Shane’s organs, we feel close to the Irish Kidney Association and we are very happy to support the charity and highlight how important organ donation is.”

The 5.6km walk will leave the Diamond in Carndonagh at 4pm on St Patrick’s Day.
