The Donegal Hospice has been given the green light to begin work on the refurbishment and further development of the Letterkenny facility.
The new apartments will accommodate patients and their families, offering a supportive and compassionate environment during their time at the hospice, which is located at Knocknamona.
Also included in the development is the provision of additional rooms for example, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and social work, as well as training and educational facilities. The proposed development also aims to enhance and modernise the existing building, bringing it up to the highest standards for the care and comfort of patients and their families.
The Donegal Hospice Board CLG (Company Limited by Guarantee) and the HSE confirmed that the planning permission has been approved. The expansion of the Donegal Hospice service is a significant milestone in ensuring the provision of exemplary end-of-life care in the local community.
“We are so excited to be at this stage of the development of our new Hospice In-patient Unit,” Isobell Rodgers, Chairperson of the Donegal Hospice Board said. “ We thank the HSE for partnering with us on this development which will benefit everyone in Donegal who requires services in the coming years.
“I would like to acknowledge and thank the public for ensuring over the years, that we always had the required funds to grow and develop our services. We are now delighted to give back by providing them with this wonderful state-of-the-art development.”
