Moville Community College extension on schedule for completion in 2025

The extension to Moville Community College is on schedule for completion in the second quarter of 2025.

Work began on the project last August, which will consist of a new build extension to the current school that will accommodate up to 550 pupils.

Speaking after a recent site visit, the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Charlie McConalogue said he’s delighted the project is on course to be finished within the agreed deadline.

“This extension will consist of 20 new classrooms and many other features that will accommodate up to 550 pupils, which is great news for the school and the wider Moville area,” he said.

“Early last year, I received confirmation that the school had been approved to proceed to construction under the Large Build Capital Programme. Works began in July, and it was great to see first-hand how well the extension is progressing when I met with Donegal ETB Chief Executive, Anne McHugh, school principal, Caroline Doherty, and Brendan Conway from Woodvale Construction on site.

“Great work has been done to get the project to the stage it’s at. All going well build will be finished in the first quarter of 2025. There’s a great sense of excitement and anticipation in the school about the extension. When it’s up and running, this new state-of-the-art building is sure to breathe new life into the school and the town of Moville.”

Designed by Kennedy Fitzgerald Architects, the new build will deliver 20 classrooms, including special needs and associated PE accommodation with a first-floor link to the existing school. The scope of work includes sports facilities, car parking, grassed play space special needs hard and soft play areas and landscaping. A new bus turning and drop-off area will also be provided. Woodvale Construction Co. Ltd are the appointed contractors.

“This is a major project for Inishowen, and the extension will see the school more than doubling in size. It’s also another example of the government’s commitment to education here in Donegal,” Minister McConalogue added.
