Inishowen Methodist Churches, in conjunction with St Columb’s Church Of Ireland, Inishowen’s four Presbyterian Churches, and St Pius X Catholic Church in Moville, are coming together to host a lay witness weekend.

The Lay Witness Mission began in the 1950s when Rev Ben Johnson found that lay people had a different type of dialogue with other laypeople than they did with members of the clergy. They were more willing to ask pointed questions or talk about issues they faced in their own lives in a different way.

Now, in 2024, the Lay Witness Mission is present in many different countries, including Ireland. From February 16 to 18, Inishowen Churches Together is hosting a Lay Witness Weekend. This is an inter-denominational event, and all are welcome.

The weekend will be filled with events, from witness meetings, to meals and coffee mornings.  Most of the events are staged at the Methodist hall in Moville and include a welcome meal on Friday at 6.30pm followed by a meeting for all and a men's breakfast at 8.30 am on Saturday.

At 11am on Saturday there will be coffee morning there will be coffee morning events throughout Inishowen, at the Methodist Manse in Moville and the Wee Hall in Culdaff as well as a number of homes.

There will be a meal for all at 6.30pm on Saturday followed by a meeting for all. Sunday will see a combined service in the Church of Ireland in Moville at 12 noon on Sunday, followed by a farewell lunch at 1.30pm.

Meals should be booked by contacting Karen on 00447547572144. Details can also be found on the Inishowen Methodist Churches Facebook and Instagram pages.
