Met Éireann have warned of early-morning frost and ice in Donegal today.

Motorists should drive with caution with local warnings of black ice in places although conditions will improve, before temperatures will drop to freezing again tonight.

"Bright today with frost and ice clearing. Dry across most areas for the day with low winter sunshine and just light southwest breezes, they said. "A chilly day with highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees.

"Tonight will be dry with clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 6 degrees, coldest and clearest across the east with some frost there. Light to moderate southwest winds will freshen later.

"Some bright or sunny spells to begin tomorrow, Wednesday, before cloud increases and a band of rain moves down from the northwest. Windy with fresh to strong southwest winds, later veering westerly and moderating. Highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees"
