Suicide bereavement charity to launch Buncrana support group and host one-day event

National suicide bereavement charity Hugg is launching a  support group in Buncrana and is hosting a free information event on suicide bereavement in the town.

Hugg was set up in 2017 by  Fiona Tuomey after her 11-year-old daughter Milly died by suicide and since then, she has advocated for support, education and research into the needs of those bereaved by suicide.

Hugg’s Buncrana event, titled Finding Hope and Healing After Suicide, will take place on Saturday, January 20 from 12pm to 3pm at the Inishowen Gateway Hotel.

Before being shortlisted for the prize in July, Lynch’s book sold 2,643 copies and he captured the 2023 Booker Prize for his fifth novel Prophet Song in November

Guest speaker Bryan Nolan, a grief and loss specialist, will discuss the impact of suicide loss and grief, and highlight ways to cope with your loss.

A personal story of suicide loss, and what was found supportive and helpful along their grief journey will be shared.

Hugg will share information on free local suicide bereavement peer support groups.

The event aims to be beneficial to anyone bereaved by suicide, whether you have experienced a bereavement in the last year or at an earlier time in your life.

There is no need to register for the event and all are welcome. 

 Also, if you are supporting someone bereaved by suicide, you are encouraged to attend. 

 The first meeting of the local support group in Buncrana will take place on Tuesday, February 6 at 7.30 pm. It will be the charity’s 17th local support group and it will be led by three local volunteers with lived experience of suicide loss.

Hugg hopes that the group will greatly benefit the local community and the surrounding area.
