Six Inishowen schools allocated almost €50,000 in Stem grants

Post-primary and primary schools in Buncrana, Carndonagh and Muff have been allocated funding for science, technology, engineering and maths

Six Inishowen schools allocated almost €50,000 in Stem grants

Scoil Naomh Bríd in Muff is receiving €2,760 in funding

Six Inishowen schools have been allocated a total of almost €50,000 in science, technology, engineering and maths (Stem) grants.

The six schools are among a total of  531 schools nationwide that will share a total of €4.7 million. Some €172,000 has been located to 17 Donegal schools for the grants,  ranging from €2,760 to €10,000.

St Patrick's Boys School in Carndonagh is receiving €9,993.00, Donagh National School, Carndonagh has been granted €6,372.95, Scoil Naomh Colmcille in Carndonagh has been allocated €10,000, Crana College, Buncrana is receiving €10,000.00, Scoil Mhuire, Buncrana has been allocated  €9,780.00  and Scoil Naomh Bríd in Muff is receiving €2,760.00.

 Welcoming the funding announcement made by the Minister for Education, Norma Foley, Donegal minister Charlie McConalogue said: “I am aware of the notable rise there has been for Stem grants in Donegal, and I am delighted to see that 19 of the county’s schools are to avail of this latest grant allocation of €4.7 which is a trebling of the allocation of €1.5 originally announced.

“Science Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and the Arts play a key role in helping students develop valuable the skills that students can use in diverse sectors. The Stem grant scheme aims to empower schools to provide the high-quality Stem education required for all their students, and I wish all the Donegal schools who have been allocated funding well with their projects," the minister for agriculture, food and the marine added.
