A Donegal Councillor has called for a ‘crackdown’ on e-scooter usage.

Buncrana-based Independent Councillor Nicholas Crossan told a meeting of the Donegal Joint Policing Committee (JPC) of a recent experience.

Councillor Crossan told how he was driving on the Shore Road in Buncrana when he came up behind a man riding an e-scoorer.

“I was behind it in the car and it was getting a little bit dark,” Councillor Crossan said.

“The only thing that was visible was the man’s white shoes. He had no helmet, no reflective gear and no lights.

“I checked my speedometer and he was doing almost 40km/h.

“There has to be a crackdown on this type of behaviour and children using these things is just dangerous.”

Chief Superintendent Aidan Glacken that there is ‘impending legislation’ being drafted and includes a maximum speed limit of 25km/h.
