A Portrush RNLI lifeboat and the Rescue 118 Cost Guard helicopter took part in the rescue
Four fishermen have been rescued after a fishing boat sank on Lough Foyle.
The alarm was raised at around 1.40pm on Sunday when a personal locator beacon was activated.
The Portrush RNLI all-weather lifeboat, Greencastle Coast Guard and the Sligo-based Rescue 118 Coast Guard helicopter all responded to the incident and began a search after it was confirmed a vessel had sunk.
The casualties were located at 3.25pm and recovered by Greencastle Coast Guard before being transferred to the Portrush Lifeboat.
They were then winched onboard Rescue 118 and taken to hospital. The crew are understood to be well following medical assessment.
Conditions at the time were described as perfect, with calm seas and excellent visibility.
The Maritime Rescue Sub Centre in Malin Head and Belfast Coastguard coordinated the rescue. Carl Kennedy of Portrush RNLI Launch Authority said the rescue of the four crew was a great outcome for all concerned.
“Our volunteer crew practice with our colleagues in the Irish Coast Guard in anticipation for this type of scenario. All crews involved worked well to recover the casualties and we are delighted that we were able to report a good outcome due to the personal locator beacon being activated.”
