Third dive due in search for diver missing off Donegal coast

The lifeboat crew went to the last known location of the small vessel

Three people have been rescued from Lough Swilly after a small vessel capsized.

Members of the public raised the alarm when they reported an overturned boat on the lough.

Lough Swilly RNLI was alerted to the incident before 2pm on Monday by Malin Head Coast Guard.

The lifeboat crew went to the last known location of the small vessel and helped three people out of the water and onto the beach.

None of the casualties required any further medical attention and the volunteer crew returned to the RNLI station at Ned's Point, refuelled and made ready for service.

The RNLI at Lough Swilly thanked “the numerous members of the public who contacted the emergency services” and kept them updated until the three people were safe.

“Your help was greatly appreciated,” a spokesperson said. “Remember if you're in difficulty in or on the water or see someone in trouble, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.”
