A motorist observed who drew the attention of Gardai when holding a mobile phone was arrested for drug-driving.
Gardai from the Buncrana Roads Policing Unit made the detection.
The driver was pulled over and subsequently failed the roadside oral fluid preliminary drug test. Having tested positive for opiates, the motorist was arrested.
Officers from the Buncrana Roads Policing United carried out a series of checkpoints alongside colleagues from the Road Safety Authority (RSA).
A number of vehicles were stopped and various offences were detected. In one instance a fixed charge penalty notice was issued for a badly worn/defective tyre and the driver was prohibited from further travel until the defect was remedied.
The driver of a tractor and trailer was detected holding a mobile phone while driving and a fixed charge penalty notice was issued.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Please help save lives on the roads by always making responsible decisions.”
