Gardai have established that a body washed up on the Scottish coast is that of Quigley’s Point man Daniel McLaughlin.

The 74-year-old was reported missing on July 7 with Gardai issuing a public appeal after his family became ‘extremely concerned for his welfare’.

Subsequent DNA analysis by Police Scotland has confirmed that the body is that of Mr McLaughlin.

The missing person appeal has been stood down.

A Garda spokesperson said: “An Garda Síochána would like to thank the media and public for their assistance in this matter.”
