Family and friends join with Fr Declan Boland and Fr Con McLaughlin.
Two Inishowen priests have been honoured for reaching their Golden Jubilees recently,
Councillor Patricia Logue, the Mayor of Derry and Strabane, hosted a special civic reception at the Guildhall for Fr Con McLaughlin and Fr Declan Boland.
Fr McLaughlin and Fr Boland were ordained on the same day, June 10, 1973.
Fr McLaughlin, who hails from Greencastle and Fr Declan Boland from Moville, were ordained at St Pius X Church alongside the late Fr Paddy O’Kane from Culdaff, by the late Dr Neil Farren, the then Bishop of Derry.
Fr McLaughlin is now the Parish Priest in Carndonagh while Fr Boland is the Parish Priest of the Camus parish in Strabane.
Councillor Logue presented both men with special tokens of appreciation. They were joined by family and friends to mark the huge milestone.
Councillor Logue paid tribute to their work over the years and their ongoing commitment to the people of Derry, Strabane and Donegal.
In 2003, after serving in the Long Tower parish for almost 20 years, Fr McLaughlin became the Parish Priest at Cappagh in Killyclogher before moving to Buncrana. He was made Parish Priest in Carndonagh in 2008.
Fr Boland has served in Pennyburn, Creggan, Draperstown and Limavady and he has been in the Camus parish since 1999.
