A conference dealing with the problems caused by dereliction will be held in Letterkenny this coming week
A conference entitled Derelict in Donegal and Beyond featuring a number of expert speakers will take place at the Station House Hotel, Letterkenny this coming Friday, July 21.
A pre-conference event will be held on Thursday evening, July 20 with a tour of the town's Lower Main Street area with Kieran Kelly from the Letterkenny History Group. He will outline what has been going on in this particular area for the past number of years.
The conference itself will begin on Friday at 10.10am with a welcome from Mayor Cllr Kevin Bradley and an opening address by Green Party chairperson, Senator Pauline O'Reilly.
The first part of this morning's events will come under the heading: Dereliction in Donegal and Northern Ireland and feature speakers such as Patricia McIntyre, Town Regeneration Officer with Donegal County Council and Charlie Fisher from Development Trust Northern Ireland. These talks will be followed by a question and answer session.
The next section of the conference is entitled: Dereliction: What Next? and will hear from Rory Hearse from Maynooth University, Ali Harvey of The Heritage Council and Tom Gilligan from Mayo County Council and Vacant Homes.ie website.
Another question and answer session will follow before a closing address from a representative from the local Tidy Towns committee.
