Cllr Terry Crossan of Sinn Féin was unanimously elected as the Cathaoirleach of the Inishowen Municipal District this afternoon.

He was proposed by party colleague Cllr Jack Murray for the position and was seconded by Cllr Martin McDermott of Fianna Fáil.

Cllr Murray will take on the role of Leas Cathaoirleach, in what will be the last year of the MD, before the next year's local elections.

Cllr Crossan expressed his humble thanks to be given the honour reflecting that it wasn't even on his radar that he would become a councillor, let alone the Cathaoirleach of the Municipal District.

Fine tributes were also paid to outgoing Cathaoirleach, Cllr Paul Canning who said that it had been a productive year, in which all members, regardless of political affiliations, have put Inishowen first and foremost.
