The sentencing of former Derry City and Celtic footballer Patrick McCourt will not now go ahead as scheduled, Derry Magistrate's Court heard today.
McCourt (39) of Wheatfield Court in Muff, County Donegal was convicted on May 31 of one count of sexual assault that occurred on January 30 last year.
The injured party in the case said that the footballer had put his hand up her skirt.
McCourt was convicted after a two day contest in front of District Judge Ted Magill.
At today's hearing of Derry Magistrate's Court Judge Magill told McCourt's defence barrister, Eoghan Devlin, that the sentencing exercise could not go ahead as scheduled on August 7.
He told the barrister that it could be brought forward to a date around July 28 or put back to a date after August 14.
Mr Devlin said that he would have to consult to see what date was suitable and said a date could be fixed later.
