Former Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams will be in Donegal next week to launch his new book about the late Eddie Fullerton.

The book, ’Councillor Eddie Fullerton. Visionary. Patriot. Martyr’ will be launched in the Lake of Shadows Hotel in Buncrana on Thursday-week, May 25th, at 7pm.

Members of the Fullerton family will also be in attendance on the evening.

The book, written by Adams, is a part of the Léarga series.

In 1979, Fullerton was the first Sinn Féin member to be elected to Donegal County Council.

Fullerton was murdered at his home in Cockhill Park, Buncrana on May 25, 1991 by the loyalist Ulster Defence Association (UDA), his attackers having broken into the house using a sledgehammer.

Fullerton was shot six times the night after four armed and masked men held a family hostage in Buncrana.

Both the Fullerton family and Sinn Féin have repeatedly raised alleged collusion between loyalist paramilitaries and the British security forces. In 2021, Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald called for an independent public enquiry into the murder.

The family initially made a complaint in 2006.

In 2013 they were given an interim report by then Police Ombudsman Dr Michael Maguire, who asked if they would be happy to be part of a wider investigation into the RUC’s handling of the loyalist murder gang responsible.
