Inishowen has lowest rates of covid vaccinations for children - new figures show

Inishowen continues to have the lowest rates of children vaccinated against Covid-19 in the country.

New figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) have revealed that the Primary Course Completion rate in 5 to 11-year-olds is just four percent in south Inishowen – the lowest rate in the country.

The second lowest uptake in the country was also reported in Inishowen, in the north of the peninsula, where only five percent of children have been vaccinated.

The CSO figures revealed that five Local Electoral Areas (LEA) in Donegal were amongst a list of the ten LEAs with the lowest uptake in the country.

Lifford-Stranorlar had the fourth lowest uptake in the country at six percent. Glenties, Milford and Donegal all reported a nine percent vaccine uptake amongst children.

Commenting on the release, Steven Conroy, Statistician, said: “The Primary Course Completed rate for children aged 5 to 11 ranged from a low of four per cent in Buncrana, Donegal to a high of 56 per cent in Stillorgan, Dublin, which had not significantly changed from January 2023.”

South Inishowen has also recorded the lowest rates of booster vaccine uptake in the country.

To date 37 percent of people have received their first booster – again the lowest in the country. Booster 2 uptake in south Inishowen is 13 percent, the third lowest in the country.
