Demand on water supply during holidays means locals ‘can’t flush toilets’

The demand on local water supplies during holiday times and over bank holiday weekends is having a severe impact on some parts of Inishowen, an Inishowen councillor has said.

Cllr Rena Donaghy raised the issue at the April meeting of the Inishowen Municipal District where she said residents in areas such as Rockytown outside Buncrana, Clonmany and Urris were impacted over the Easter weekend.

She said it has been an “ongoing problem for a long time” particularly during “holiday times, peak time and bank holidays”.

The Fianna Fáil councillor said there was extra pressure on local water supplies and visitors coming to the areas to stay means locals “can’t even flush their toilets”.

“These people will have these problems during the May bank holiday,” she said. “We really need to once and for all get this problem sorted.”

Cllr Martin McDermott said there had been efforts to be made to solve the problems but in some areas, the demands caused by “holiday parks” are causing issues.
