Shock following "wanton vandalism" of Inishowen church

Vandals dislodged a number of coping stones of the perimeter wall of St. Peter’s Church of Ireland in Muff

There was widespread shock and anger in Inishowen after it emerged that a church has vandalised.

Vandals dislodged a number of coping stones of the perimeter wall of St. Peter’s Church of Ireland in Muff.

Local councillor Terry Crossan said was "very disappointed" with the "wanton vandalism".

He said: "I’m very disappointed to have to report an act of wanton vandalism to the perimeter wall of St. Peter’s Church of Ireland in Muff.

"A number of coping stones were dislodged and strewn about the grass causing significant damage and destabilising this very old wall. Metal grills were also removed from the windows of the old stables in an attempt to gain entry.

"While not wanting to point the finger at anyone I would ask parents to ensure that young people are made aware of the implications of becoming involved in anti social behaviour especially on Church property or involving any important heritage structures.

"Thankfully, repairs will begin tomorrow to repair the wall."
