Alan Foley holds a Masters in Journalism from NUI Galway
Iconic Media Group has appointed Alan Foley as its new Managing Editor of its Northwest Division - Donegal with immediate effect.
Alan was appointed sports editor of the group in June 2021, becoming deputy editor in October 2022. The Letterkenny native takes charge of the titles at an exciting time, with their digital audiences growing rapidly across the county and especially on Letterkenny Live. He is the son of Jean and the late Joe Foley from Carnamuggagh Lower, Letterkenny.
Alan graduated from Letterkenny Institute of Technology (now ATU Donegal) before completing a Masters in Journalism at NUI Galway in 2007 and previously worked for the Donegal Democrat as a sports reporter from 2004 to 2015.
The Iconic Media Group in Donegal consists of Donegallive.ie, The Donegal Democrat, Donegal Post, Donegal People's Press, Inish Times, LetterkennyLive and InishLive.
“I’m delighted to take the position of editor,” Alan said this week. “The Donegal Democrat and all our local titles are something of an institution in Donegal, which is a county with a rich heritage and fantastic people. Our aim is not only to continue that fine tradition but also develop the news channels even further.”
