RNLI volunteer hangs up his yellow wellies after a quarter century of service

After 25 years of dedicated lifeboat service at Lough Swilly RNLI, Seosamh Mahon has decided to hang up the yellow wellies.

A spokesperson for Lough Swilly RNLI took to social media to say: "We wish him well for the future and thank both Seosamh and Mary Louise for everything they have done over the years.

"Ádh mór don todhchaí."

These sentiments were echoed by the many messages of good wishes posted to Lough Swilly RNLI Facebook page in response to the announcement.

Among the well wishers was Donegal RNLI stalwart Nora Flanagan who said: "Wishing you a long, happy and pager free retirement. Imagine not being woken in the wee hours of the morning to head off to not knowing what! Thank you."

Other messages included: 

"Well done Seosamh a great service to your community, enjoy your retirement." - Amanda Doherty

"Respect, thank you for your service." - Elaine Redden Smith

“Best of luck Seosamh to you and your family for the future.” - Padraig Rath

“Well done Seosamh Mahon , enjoy your retirement now. xx” - Pauline Barnett
