Heavy overnight snow falls across Donegal have left driving conditions extremely dangerous this morning.

For the most part, main roads are passable with extreme care, but there are reports of vehicles going off the road along several routes.

A number of schools in different parts of the county are to remain closed while several bus companies have said they won’t be operating school services this morning.

Letterkenny is one of the areas worst affected and a number of schools in the town have confirmed they won’t be opening today. They include Coláiste Ailigh, Woodlands NS, Ballyraine NS, Illistrin NS, Loreto Secondary School, Letterkenny, Scoil Cholmcille NS, St Bernadette’s NS and Educate Together National School.

Parts of Inishowen have also been hit by wintry conditions and among the schools that will not open today are Scoil Naomh Brid, Muff, Scoil Naomh Fionan, Whitecastle, Moville Community College and Crana College.

Among the bus companies that won’t be operating this morning are McGettigan Travel, Kia Cabs and Michael Friel Coaches.

Roads in and around Kilmacrennan and Milford are also reported to be extremely hazardous.
