Local elections: Murray leads the day after final tallies in Buncrana

The Buncrana Local Electoral Area was the first to go at the Aura Centre in Letterkenny this morning, with the tallies showing Jack Murray of Sinn Fein showing very well.

Murray got almost a quarter of the vote, at 2,060, to lead the way, and spoke to Chris McNulty afterwards. The 100% Redress Party can certainly be happy with their work in Inishowen. Joy Beard's total was 1,447 votes.

Twelve candidates are contesting five seats. Sitting councillors Murray (Sinn Féin), Terry Crossan (Sinn Féin) and Paul Canning (Fianna Fáil) are contesting the LEA, which forms part of the Inishowen Municipal District.

The seats behind Murray and Beard look like going to  Paul Canning, Fianna Fáil; Terry Crossan, Sinn Fein; and Fionan Bradley, Fianna Fáil. Kim McMenamin, the Irish People Party, had a decent return in sixth.

Buncrana forms the Inishowen Municipal District, with Carndonagh.
