National Half Marathon success for Inishowen Athletics Club

The Inishowen Athletics Team taking part in the National Half Marathon Championships in Charleville, Cork

Five Inishowen athletes travelled to Charleville, County Cork to take part in the National Half Marathon Championships with one member of the team taking a national gold medal home.

The event started at 10am on Sunday morning, but the long trip gave the team time to talk tactics.

There were perfect conditions for the runners and Pauric McKinney took full advantage by coming first in the male over 55 category and taking home the national title with a time of 76 minutes and four seconds. 

42 seconds later Martin McLucas was second home in the same category and took home a national silver medal.

Liam Brady set a personal best in the male over 50 category and finished in eighth with a time of 78 minutes and one second.

The male over 50 team took home a national silver medal in the team event. The team finished just behind Grange Fermoy athletics club. The team’s score was the first three times of members that crossed the line.

The two ladies finished the race strongly.  Caoimhe Ni Shuibhne finished with a time of 89 minutes and 25 seconds. Aileen Devlin finished in 93 minutes and 12 seconds.

Charleville Athletics Club even joked on Facebook if this is the furthest a club travelled to take part in the event.

Two other Donegal athletes ran with Martina Mulhern from Rosses Athletics Club finishing in a time of 92 minutes and 52 seconds. Barry Mackey from Letterkenny Athletics Club completed the half marathon in 87 minutes 48 seconds.
