St Naul's win Division 2 League in a solid victory over Urris

It was St Naul’s who were celebrating after the final whistle in Lifford on Sunday afternoon after they captured the Division 2 league with an eight-point victory over Urris.  

St Naul’s started the better of the two teams in this final and they had their first score after a minute when Niamh McGeoghan put the ball over the bar. But Urris responded quickly as Nicole Gordon equalised from a free. 

From the kick-out Urris turned the ball over and worked it well to Gordon and she fired the ball past the keeper to make it 1-1 to 0-1 after three minutes. 

St Naul’s regrouped and got themselves level when a ball was caught by Zoe Murray inside the box and she fired high into the roof of the net.

From that moment on St Naul’s got the next four points and raced into a 1-5 to 1-1 point lead. However, Urris reduced this deficit and scored two points just before half-time with the Naul’s team going in two points up at the break. 

The opening five minutes of the second half were hectic with both teams exchanging scores at will. St Naul’s thought they had a second goal when an effort from Layla Alvey was cleared off the line by the Urris defense. 

Nicole Gordon kept Urris in the game by scoring 1-5 but it wasn’t enough as St Naul’s always seemed to keep Urris at bay. 

Both teams exchanged points, but with 15 minutes to go St Naul’s led by 1-10 to 1-07. The Mountcharles team kept Urris quiet for the rest of the game and ran out winners by eight points after scores from Layla Alvey, Lucy Ward, and Emer Shovlin.
