A Derry man was more than four-and-a-half times over the legal drink drive limit when he was stopped by gardai in Buncrana.
Spencer Lynch was stopped at a Mandatory Intoxicant Testing (MIT) checkpoint at 5am on May 9, 2023 at St Mary’s Road.
Lynch pulled up to the checkpoint driving a black Mercedes and failed a roadside breath test. Lynch was arrested and conveyed to Buncrana Garda Station, where a subsequent test showed a concentration of 100mg of of alcohol per 100ml of breath, where the legal limit is 22mg/100ml.
Lynch, a 53-year-old of Claremount House, Strand Road, Derry, was before Buncrana District Court.
Solicitor Mr Frank Dorrian said his client was ‘otherwise a very good character’.
“A disqualification will be a great obstacle to his mobility when he comes back from the UK,” Mr Dorrian said.
Judge Éiteáin Cunningham put Lynch off the road for three years and fined him €200, allowing six months to pay.
