Buncrana Garda Station
A man has been charged with stealing checkpoint beacons from a Garda station in Donegal on St Stephen’s Day.
Matthew Cassidy has been charged in connection with the incident.
The case of 19-year-old Cassidy, of Gransha Road, Buncrana, was before Buncrana District Court.
Evidence of the arrest, charge and caution of Cassidy was given to the court by Sergeant Sean McDaid.
Cassidy is charged with stealing a carry case containing six MEPRO checkpoint hi-visibility flashing beacons. The lights are valued at €200 and the property of Chief Superintendent Aidan Glacken.
Cassidy is represented by solicitor Mr Frank Dorrian. Mr Dorrian said the incident was ‘more a prank than a theft’.
Judge Éiteáin Cunningham adjourned the case until March 14, 2024 to allow for disclosure to be given to the defence.
