Burt ease into U-21 C semi-finals with comfortable win over Bundoran

Burt had far too much for Bundoran in this U-21 C quarter-final clash.

Burt made no mistake in this one-sided U-21 C quarter-final clash in Killygordon when they easily brushed aside the challenge of Bundoran.

Burt 3-12
Bundoran 1-6

Such was Burt's grip on this one, the game was effectively over at half-time as the Inishowen lads departed with a ten-point lead.

Two goals perfectly sandwiched six points in between with two pointed frees all Bundoran were able to muster in the same spell. Early on, the impressive Keith McColgan netted the first of those three-pointers when his effort for a point dipped and went in off the underside of the crossbar.

The same player then lofted over a free on 11 minutes as the gap stretched to four. Bundoran were off the mark at the beginning of the second quarter thanks to an Anton Govorov free.

Burt remained in the ascendency however, with Eoghan Kerr again put four between the sides at 1-2 to 0-1. Conor Gartland then kicked the second of five successive Burt overs, registering from a close range free.

The game's standout player McColgan added two more points to his own personal haul as he was on target from play, twice in quick succession. Gartland clipped his second to push Burt out to 1-6, two minutes out from the break.

Deep in added time at the end of the opening stanza, Bundoran finally posted a second point, thanks to another placed ball, this time off the boot of Ryan Barrett.

However, there was still time for Burt to go straight down the other side and ram in a second goal, with Kerr neatly slicing high into the net.

Burt picked up the pace following the restart. From throw-in right up until the 45th minute the leaders tagged on another 1-4 uninterrupted to move 3-10 to 0-2 clear.

Full-forward Gartland got things motoring at the outset of the new half while Shayne Gallagher also got in on the scoring act. On 38 minutes Gartland fired in a third goal for Mel O’Donnell’s side and a gap of 15 points opened up.

McColgan and Gareth McElroy rounded off that scoring burst to leave a huge 17 points in it moving into the fourth and final quarter.

Bundoran finally got back on the scoreboard thanks to Kyle McNulty (free) while Anton Govorov helped push Realt na Mara out to four on 49 minutes. Before the end, McColgan rounded off the scoring for the winners.

And with the foot off the gas, Bundoran were allowed to hit closing points through McNulty and Govorov. Peadear McHendry also flicked home a late, late goal for the south Donegal side.
