Breaking: Peadar Mogan and Oisin Gallen named on the 2024 All-Star team

Peadar Mogan and Oisin Gallen have both won All-Stars in 2024 after a great season with Donegal

Donegal’s Peadar Mogan and Oisin Gallen have both been named All-Star winners for the first time.

The St Naul’s man was named at left-corner back, while the MacCumhaills sharpshooter has been listed at full-forward.

On a team that contains 14 players winning All-Star awards for the first time, Niall Mogan of Tyrone is the only player to have the award before.

All-Ireland winners Armagh topped the list with six awards, followed by Galway at five, Donegal come in next at two, while Tyrone and Louth complete the list with one each.

In doing so, Mogan and Gallen become Donegal’s 23rd and 24th All-Star winners, with Michael Murphy being Donegal’s last All-Star winner in 2019. It is also the first time a player from either St Naul’s or MacCumhaills has won an All-Star.

Mogan had been in flying form since the start of the season, winning back-to-back GAA/GPA Player of the Month awards for May and June.

His displays in June were topped with a Man of the Match performance against Louth as he kicked five points from play at Croke Park in the All-Ireland quarter-final.

Meanwhile, Gallen emerged as one of the top scorers in the championship, amassing 2-33. He scored six points in the Ulster SFC final win over Armagh, before the 6-5 penalty shootout success following a 0-20 to 0-20 draw after extra-time, with four of those points coming from play.

Since the return of Jim McGuinness as manager last year, Donegal were Allianz League Division 2 champions and won their first Ulster crown since 2019. They made their first All-Ireland semi-final appearance in a decade, where they were beaten by Pauric Joyce’s Galway side last July on a 1-14 to 0-15 point scoreline.

Shaun Patton, Ryan McHugh, Brendan McCole, Caolan McGonagle, and Michael Langan had also been nominated for All-Stars.

Both Mogan and Gallen have been recognised by the committee chaired by GAA President Jarlath Burns and containing senior Gaelic Games correspondents.

The announcement of the 2024 PwC All-Star Hurling team will be made live on Friday night, as will the announcement of the Footballer and Hurler of the Year, with St Eunan’s player Ciaran Moore nominated for Young Footballer of the Year alongside Armagh's Oisín Conaty and Galway's Johnny McGrath.
