Bundoran held scoreless in second half but prevail against Burt

In a bizarre contest Bundoran led by six at half-time and curtailed Burt to just three second half points

Bundoran held scoreless in second half but prevail against Burt

Realt na Mara, Bundoran 1-7

Burt 0-7

Bundoran were thankful for their six point half-time lead as they failed to raise a flag in the second half to just about edge this opening Intermediate Championship encounter at Gaelic Park.

Shayne Gallagher had the opening score, a free in the first minute but by the 7th minute Bundoran had registered three from Jamie Brennan (2) and Matthew Duffy.

Dara Grant hit a very long range effort for Burt’s second but Kyle McNulty cancelled that score with a mark after a good pass from Oisin Walsh.

Anton Govorov won a free for Jamie Brennan to point but Shayne Gallagher replied at the other end.

Another Jamie Brennan free was followed by a goal on 24 minutes when Oisin Walsh turned the ball over and quickly set Kyle McNulty free to fire low to the corner of the Burt net. McNulty quickly added another point but Burt had a great opening for a goal two minutes from the break when Shayne Gallagher found space inside the Bundoran last line but with just Conor Carty to beat his shot was too high and went over off the crossbar.

Half-time: Bundoran 1-7, Burt 0-4.

In what turned out to be a bizarre second half, Bundoran would not raise a flag while Burt had the opening score of the half, a Gallagher free on 35 minutes.

But they would not score again until the 60th minute. There was plenty of action with the locals not happy with a black card picked up by Matthew Duffy and they also lost Adam McGlone to a serious hand injury.

They can thank ‘keeper, Conor Carty, who denied Denvir Kelly at point blank range on 49 minutes.

Burt finally got their second point of the half through Sean McHugh on 60 minutes and he also had the last score, but they were not able to bridge the gap.

Burt will rue their missed second half chances whilst the home side will know that an improved performance will be needed if they want to trouble Naomh Columba next weekend
