Carndonagh hurlers have qualified for the Intermediate hurling final
Carndonagh 2-21
Dungloe 1-5
Carndonagh overcame Dungloe in O'Doherty Park in Carndonagh in perfect hurling conditions on Friday evening in the Intermediate Championship which leaves the home side qualified for the final with a game to spare.
Dungloe were missing some regulars, including some of their senior and U-20 county players, but battled well until the end.
Carn, playing with the help of a wind in the first half started very strongly and had 1-5 scored before Dungloe were able to get on the scoresheet.
Early points by Daire Tully, Donal Doherty, and Cian Doherty, were added to by a great goal from Donal Doherty and further points from Cathal Doherty and Luke White which had Carn in early control.
Richie Ryan scored a point from a free to get Dungloe on the scoresheet but Carndonagh kept pushing on, and any indiscipline was punished by Luke White as he added two more frees to leave it 1-7 to 0-1 after 15 minutes.
Carn continued the dominance with two points from play from Cian Doherty and another from Daire Tully which pushed the Carn lead out further before Nicolas Wehrly scored a great point from distance for Dungloe.
Cathal Doherty then scored a superb goal after a mazy run, and a Luke White monster point from play had the game well settled before the half-time whistle.
Richie Ryan had the last bit of action in the first half with a point from a free to leave the score 2-13 to 0-3 at half time.
The second half was a quieter affair with a raft of substitutes, meaning that neither team settled into a proper rhythm.
Cian Doherty stood out for Carn, with a 0–4-point second-half display all from play, including one from the left sideline.
One free and one from play from Luke White, as well as further scores from Donal Doherty and Cathal Doherty, left Carn with a total of 2-21 at the end.
Dungloe battled until the end and eventually got the goal their second-half performance deserved with a late Evan McFadden three-pointer after a scramble but it wasn’t enough as Carn saw the game out for the win.
