Explainer: Details for All-Ireland for All-Ireland semi-final draw announced

If Donegal win on Sunday they will be in the draw for the All-Ireland semi-final

Should a draw for the semi-finals of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship be necessary, it will occur during The Sunday Game Live immediately following the quarter-final match between Kerry and Derry.

Efforts will be made to avoid repeating earlier pairings from the championship where possible.

The first two quarter-finals are set for tomorrow, with Armagh playing Roscommon at 4.00pm, followed by a match between the All-Ireland champions, Dublin, and Galway at 6.15pm.

On Sunday, Kerry will face Derry in a rematch of last year's thrilling All-Ireland semi-final, starting at 3.15pm. This game will be preceded by Donegal's encounter with Louth at 1.15pm.

The semi-finals are planned to take place two weeks later.

In the event where Donegal, Derry, and Armagh prevail to an All-Ireland semi-final then a fully open draw will take place regardless of who prevails between Galway and Dublin.

This is because Donegal have already played Derry and Armagh, while Mickey Harte’s side and Kieran McGeeney’s team have also already played each other, so an open draw would be needed with Donegal possibly playing one of their Ulster rivals again.

It is also worth pointing out that Armagh and Derry have also played Galway already in the championship too.
