The All County Leagues, almost forgotten with the Donegal senior team doing so well this year, are nearing their end game with some teams only having two games left to play.
In the top flight, holders Naomh Conaill look best bet to make the final to contest the Democrat Cup as they have four games left to play and are just two points adrift of the top spot. St Eunan’s interest in the league seems to be waning in recent weeks. Gaoth Dobhair are on top at the moment and if they win their two remaining games (v St Michael’s and Kilcar) they are guaranteed a place in the final.
That final game, at home to Kilcar on 13/14 July, could well be a play-off for a final place. On current form Naomh Conaill should be there too with MacCumhaill’s also in the hunt although they have a big task on Sunday next with Naomh Conaill in MacCumhaill Park.
The relegation battle looks intriguing. Realt na Mara, Bundoran are destined for the drop with no points from nine games. After that it looks like a battle royale with one other team automatically relegated and the third from bottom facing a play-off with the third from top in Division 2.
Any two from Naomh Columba, Glenfin, St Michael’s, Glenswilly, Aodh Ruadh, Na Dunaibh Malin. With teams meeting other 10 points looks like being the target for safety.
Killybegs and Four Masters are the form teams in Division 2 and they are set to meet on the final day of the league. Killybegs dropped their first points at the weekend to Termon, who are back in the race as a result. Buncrana and Milford, to a lesser degree, are still in the hunt for a promotion place or play-off.
At the bottom Red Hughs and Na Rossa are adrift but the Killygordon boys do have games in hand. Cloughaneely’s form has dipped alarmingly and Ardara, Gaeil Fhánada, St Naul’s, Naomh Muire and Dungloe still need points quickly.
In Division 3 Convoy and Carndonagh are 100 per cent while Naomh Brid are still in the mix having dropped just two points. It would seem that these three will be fighting for a league final place and promotion. Carndonagh have Naomh Brid at home and Convoy away so those results will have a big bearing on the final outcome.
At the bottom Pettigo and Naomh Padraig, Lifford are still looking for their first points while Robert Emmets have just two on the board.
