John McNulty gives his thoughts to TG4 after

John McNulty said Donegal’s refusal to accept defeat is a real character trait as they reeled Kerry back in to share the points in Ballybofey.

In this All-Ireland Series Group 2 opener, Katie Dowds and Susanne White struck late as matters finished 1-6 to 0-9 in MacCumhaill Park.

The hosts were level at the changeover 1-3 to 0-6 as Caoimhe Keon’s early three-pointer kept them on Kerry tails. But in the final five minutes, Donegal showed real heart against the beaten Division 1 finalists to snatch the draw.

“Conditions were horrendous but I thought it was a good performance from ourselves,” said McNulty after. “We battled back and got a draw. We’d a possession late on but coughed it up.

“At the same time, we showed great discipline at the end when they were looking to work a score. We have to be happy with a share of the points. The girls are working so hard at training.

“We’d a five or six-week break and we put alot into that. Being in Division 2, and looking to rebuild, the girls are really taking leadership in that. We’ll look at Kerry and Waterford next week and take it from there”.
